How to Get to Colmar, France: Airports and Trains

EuroAirport Basel Mulhouse Freiburg and Strasbourg Airport are the main flight gateways for Colmar. Choose between them according to the flights serving your departure point and the ground transfers you can comfortably manage. Rail arrivals from Paris, Strasbourg and Basel also bring you to Colmar station, with a final walk to Place de l’Ancienne Douane in the old town.

Choose the airport with the usable flight first, and then weigh the transfer. EuroAirport offers a forecourt bus followed by a train, while Strasbourg offers a covered walk followed by two trains. With children or heavy luggage, favour a direct onward train and the approach you can manage comfortably. Baggage collection, border procedures, waiting and interchange time are additional to the travel components above.

EuroAirport serves markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Canada, Morocco and Turkey, with airlines including easyJet, British Airways, KLM and Turkish Airlines. Some destinations operate only in summer or winter.

Strasbourg Airport’s direct destinations include London, Manchester, Frankfurt, Madrid, Rome and Casablanca, with airlines including Volotea, easyJet, Lufthansa and Royal Air Maroc. Holiday-flight destinations, such as Rovaniemi and Madeira, are not necessarily year-round scheduled services.

Colmar-Houssen Airport has no scheduled public passenger flights, so it is not an alternative for a regular airline arrival. If you are already in Paris, Strasbourg or Basel, use the rail approaches below rather than adding an airport transfer.

From EuroAirport, leave through the French-sector Arrivals exit for the terminal forecourt. This puts you at the boarding point for Saint-Louis railway station, rather than on a Swiss-sector connection towards Basel.

Buy your bus ticket from the driver with cash or card, or through the Distribus e-shop. An SMS ticket is also available: text “EAP” to 93400 and show the reply to the driver as you board. Buy when you are ready to travel, rather than well ahead of landing.

The bus journey to Saint-Louis takes about 11 minutes. At the station, choose a direct SNCF TER Fluo Grand Est service to Colmar if it fits your arrival. The direct rail leg takes about 36 minutes. Other itineraries involve changing at Mulhouse or Basel SBB, adding another luggage transfer.

After reaching Colmar station, continue to Place de l’Ancienne Douane using the old-town approach below. Treat the bus and train as separate boarding stages: leave room to get off, find your platform and move luggage without rushing.

From the station to the old town

From Colmar station, continue to Place de l’Ancienne Douane to reach the old town, rather than treating the railway arrival as the end of your journey. The walk is about 1.2 km and takes about 16 minutes, ending beside the former customs house.

With bulky luggage, tired children or difficulty walking, a short taxi journey is an alternative. Budget roughly €10–€20 per vehicle for this central trip, but traffic, time of day and luggage charges can move the metered cost. Have the square’s name ready so the driver knows your destination.

Strasbourg Airport via Strasbourg station

From Strasbourg Airport, follow the covered pedestrian walkway to Entzheim-Aéroport station, about five minutes on foot. SNCF’s TER Fluo Grand Est trains take you directly to Strasbourg station in eight minutes. Change there for Colmar. The onward regional rail journey takes about 32 minutes, followed by the old-town walk described above.
