Nashville Farmers’ Market: Five Lunch Counters

For a casual lunch at Nashville Farmers’ Market, head inside the Market House. Bella Nashville Pizzeria, Bowl and Roll, Jamaicaway, Succulent Vegan Tacos and Swagruha give you a choice of wood-fired pizza, Korean rice bowls, Jamaican chicken, plant-based tacos and Indian biryani.

These are counters within the dining building, not restaurants nearby or stalls in the outdoor produce sheds. Choose by the dish you want and the kitchen’s service window, especially if you arrive towards the end of lunch.

Typical food budgets per person for a lunch-sized order, before drinks, tax and tips.

You can buy from different counters and eat together in the shared indoor dining area. That makes the Market House useful when companions want different dishes, without having to agree on a single kitchen. Treat lunch as a walk-up meal rather than a restaurant reservation.

The budget ranges allow for a main dish or a lunch-sized taco order. Extra toppings, sides or a larger order move spending towards the upper end or beyond it. Drinks are an additional expense, so decide whether you want just lunch or a meal with extras before ordering.

The building’s opening window is not each kitchen’s service window. Arriving while the Market House is open does not mean every counter is serving. Jamaicaway’s conflicting weekly schedules need a separate fallback, explained below.

For a restaurant outing elsewhere rather than a counter lunch, neighbourhood meal picks in Nashville give you a separate selection organised around where you want to eat.

Bella Nashville Pizzeria

Bella Nashville Pizzeria’s Margherita pizza is the straightforward choice for a wood-fired lunch. The classic combination of tomato, mozzarella and basil keeps the toppings simple, leaving the crust an important part of the meal. Bella prepares individual pizzas, so you can order a pizza as your own main rather than organise a shared large pie.

Its wood-fired brick oven distinguishes the counter. Wood-fired cooking usually brings a quickly cooked crust with browned, sometimes lightly charred patches around the edge. At Bella’s Market House counter, you can watch pizzas being made while you wait, giving the preparation itself a place in your lunch stop. Choose Margherita when you want the familiar topping combination rather than a heavily topped pizza.

Bowl and Roll

Bowl and Roll’s bulgogi bibimbap gives you a rice-based lunch with marinated beef. Bibimbap means mixed rice with toppings. At this Korean Market House counter, known for bulgogi, the dish makes a useful order when you want rice and meat in one bowl rather than separate dishes.

Bulgogi is usually made with thinly sliced beef in a savoury-sweet marinade. Bibimbap typically combines rice with vegetables and other toppings, which you mix together before eating so that the ingredients are distributed through the bowl. That combination, rather than the broad label of Korean food, is the reason to choose this Market House counter. Order the bulgogi version when the beef is what appeals to you.

Jamaicaway

Jamaicaway’s jerk chicken comes in spicy and mild boneless versions, so heat preference can decide your order at this Jamaican Market House counter. Jerk seasoning usually combines allspice, herbs and chilli, bringing aromatic spice as well as heat. Choose Spicy Jerk Chicken if that heat is part of the appeal, or Mild Boneless Jerk Chicken if you prefer a gentler main without bones.

Succulent Vegan Tacos

Succulent Vegan Tacos offers an entirely plant-based menu with Mexico City-style dishes inside the Market House. Its Al Pastor tacos, a plant-based take on shepherd-style tacos, pair seasoned seitan with fresh pineapple. The combination gives you a specific order to choose, with the pineapple adding sweetness and acidity to the savoury filling.

Seitan is a wheat-based protein with a firm, chewy texture. This filling contains wheat, so vegan does not mean gluten-free. Choose a lunch-sized order of tacos rather than treating a single taco as a full meal. The attraction here is a taqueria meal built around plant-based fillings, not simply leaving meat out of an otherwise meat-centred dish.

Swagruha

Swagruha’s chicken biryani combines chicken breast cubes, basmati rice and spices in one main dish. Biryani is a spiced rice dish, and this version puts the chicken into the rice rather than making it a separate side. It is the order to choose at this Indian Market House counter when you want a rice-centred lunch.

Swagruha also serves samosas, savoury filled pastries that are usually enclosed in a crisp shell. Add them if you want something alongside the biryani, rather than making an extra dish automatic. Keeping the biryani as your main gives the meal a clear centre, while samosas turn it into a more substantial lunch and increase your food spending.

Finding the Market House

The Market House is on the north side of Nashville Farmers’ Market, along 7th Avenue, between Bicentennial Mall State Park and the outdoor farm sheds. It is the indoor building you want for these lunch counters and shared seating, rather than the produce sheds.

For pedestrian access, head to the Grand Entrance at the north end of the Market House. If you have been browsing the outdoor stalls, turn towards the dining building to find the kitchens.

The Market House building opens daily from 8am to 8pm. That gives you access to the building beyond the lunch period, but your meal still depends on the kitchen service windows above.

Summer is the strongest choice for a warm-weather beach outing at Percy Priest Lake, with early autumn an alternative if you prefer less intense heat ashore.
