Nashville Weekend Itinerary: Music and Two Full Days

The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum gives Nashville’s live music a backstory, and the Ryman Auditorium brings that history onto a stage. Spend Saturday with both before Lower Broadway’s bands, then use Sunday for the Parthenon and neighbourhood browsing. This weekend needs Friday evening plus two full days, including Sunday dinner, rather than an early Sunday flight.

Two full days are worthwhile for a first Nashville visit: you can connect music history with live bands and still get beyond downtown. SoBro puts the museum in your accommodation neighbourhood, typically roughly 5–15 minutes away on foot, depending on your room’s location.

Lower Broadway concentrates the late-night music. Rooms facing Broadway or close to its bars can be noisy, while a few blocks’ separation or a higher floor is more likely to be quieter. Choose distance from the bars if sleep matters more than stepping straight into the evening crowds.

Expect sustained walking, even with the breaks. Wear comfortable shoes and carry drinking water. Summer heat makes the accommodation rests useful, and Sunday’s cross-city bus journeys spare you a long continuous walk between districts.

Arrival evening and airport transfers

Nashville International Airport is the arrival gateway. After baggage claim, follow Ground Transportation signs to Level 1 of Terminal Garage 2 and the purple-marked WeGo stop. Route 18 runs to WeGo Central, the downtown transit centre.

The adult fare is $2 each way. Pay with exact cash, QuickTicket or contactless payment, with the latter two providing a two-hour pass. Friday evening buses run every 40 minutes after 6pm. The airport-to-Central journey takes about 36 minutes, then you still need to reach your accommodation.

After settling into SoBro, have an untimed downtown dinner. Nashville hot chicken is fried chicken coated with a spicy seasoning, commonly cayenne-based. Choose a mild heat level if you are unsure, rather than making your first meal a chilli challenge. A sit-down dinner usually falls around 6–9pm, with the busiest period around 6–7pm. If arrival is late, leave the music for Saturday.

Museum-only admission covers the galleries, permanent and rotating exhibitions, and museum programmes. The audio tour, RCA Studio B and Hatch Show Print guided experiences are separate purchases. Keep those extras for a longer stay rather than squeezing them into this Saturday.

Reserve a selected time for the Ryman self-guided tour. Performances and production work can limit auditorium access, and backstage access depends on that schedule. Treat the daytime visit as a tour, not a substitute for attending a concert.

At the Parthenon, individual visitors buy admission at the ticket counter or Museum Store. Lunch before the indoor visit fits Sunday’s later start.

Saturday’s instruments and stage costumes at the Country Music Hall of Fame, the Ryman’s pews and Lower Broadway’s bands connect music history with a live evening, broken by browsing and a riverfront pause. Set off from your SoBro base for the museum.

The Country Music Hall of Fame’s instruments, recordings and personal memorabilia trace how artists and the genre evolved. Ramped entrances, automatic doors and lifts make the museum route step-free. Limited complimentary manual wheelchairs are available first come, first served.

The Gulch adds the “What Lifts You” wings mural and independent boutiques. Cut this detour first if you want more rest. After returning to your accommodation, cross to Wasioto Park for the downtown view in the evening light. In winter, take this outdoor pause before the rest so it falls in daylight.

Back in SoBro, eat away from Broadway’s busiest blocks before heading to Lower Broadway. Its honky-tonks, bars with live country bands, let you sample music without arranging a ticketed show. Stay with a band you enjoy rather than making every bar a compulsory stop.

  9. Ends around 8:15pm

Sunday’s Centennial Park paths, the Parthenon’s gold-leafed Athena and 12South’s shopfronts make a slower counterpoint to Saturday’s music, ending with dinner on Belmont Boulevard. Set off again from SoBro, this time towards Centennial Park rather than downtown’s museums.

Centennial Park’s mature trees, gardens and reflecting lake reward the optional morning walk. Elliston Place then gives you lunch before the temple visit. Elliston Place Soda Shop offers meat-and-three, a main meat dish with three sides, as well as burgers and milkshakes.

The Parthenon reproduces the Athens temple at full scale, including a recreation of its ancient Athena statue. The gold-leafed figure stands 42 feet tall inside, making the indoor visit more than a look at the exterior columns. Ramps and a lift provide stair-free access to both exhibition levels.

After the Parthenon, Route 3 brings you back towards SoBro for your accommodation rest. Later, Route 17 takes you towards 12South. These are separate bus journeys, with walking approaches to the stops and from the bus to your destination, so keep comfortable footwear on rather than treating the afternoon as entirely seated.

12South’s independent boutiques, locally owned shops and cafés suit browsing with a coffee break. Continue to Sevier Park, where benches and picnic tables provide a seated pause, then walk to Belmont Boulevard for dinner before leaving Nashville or spending a final night.

In rain, drop the optional outdoor walks but retain the indoor Parthenon visit. Summer heat favours keeping the accommodation rest. In winter, move the Sevier Park pause ahead of browsing to use the remaining daylight, then finish indoors with dinner.

Early departures and shorter stays

  • Less energy on Saturday: drop The Gulch before cutting the music museum, Ryman or Broadway evening.
  • Late first morning: choose one substantial music-history visit, the Country Music Hall of Fame or Ryman, rather than compressing both.
  • Early Sunday departure: remove 12South, Sevier Park and Belmont Boulevard dinner. Keep the Parthenon only if its afternoon opening fits your flight.
  • One full day: retain Saturday’s museum and live-music anchors, with the Ryman if time allows.

Two full days give a first visit both music history and neighbourhood time. Friday arrival through Sunday departure spans three calendar days, but an early flight removes much of the second sightseeing day.

From WeGo Central, Route 18 to the airport takes about 37 minutes. Sunday service runs from 5:15am to 12:15am the following morning. Monday departures run from 5:15am to 11:15pm, every 30 minutes from 6am–6pm and every 40 minutes in the evening.

Allow for accommodation access, bus waiting and baggage. Aim to reach the airport at least two hours before a domestic flight or three before an international flight, with extra time during busy periods.
