Vegan Restaurants in St Augustine: Breakfast & Lunch

The Sprout Kitchen is the straightforward choice for a plant-based breakfast in St Augustine, with The Works sprouted bagel on its Charlotte Street menu. For a more substantial breakfast or lunch on West King Street, Buena Onda offers a Breakfast Burrito made vegan with specified substitutions.

Crave Downtown and The Manatee Cafe offer two further possibilities, but their named orders need staff confirmation of the whole plate. Choose by where you are spending the morning, what you want to eat and how much certainty you want before sitting down.

Vegetarian does not necessarily mean vegan: eggs and dairy can still be part of the meal. A vegan ingredient, such as taco meat or tofu, does not establish that the bread, sauce and accompaniments are suitable too. At the conditional stops, ask about bread, spreads, cooking fats and sides before committing to your order.

The selection spans the historic centre, the King Street cafés and the State Road 16 corridor. Match the area to your day’s plans rather than treating these as four stops to visit in succession. The budgets suit a casual meal. A smoothie, speciality coffee or extra topping can push spending above the range, and sales tax and a tip increase the final bill.

Walk in when your breakfast or lunch timing is flexible. For a group, arrange seats ahead where the café accepts that request, rather than assuming a larger table will be free. Make the vegan requirements part of that conversation so everyone can choose a suitable meal.

The Sprout Kitchen

The Sprout Kitchen’s The Works sprouted bagel brings several plant-based toppings into one breakfast or light lunch. It combines whole avocado, cultured cashew cream cheese, coconut bacon, raw sauerkraut and sprouts. The cashew spread supplies a dairy-free cream-cheese element, while the sauerkraut adds a contrasting fermented topping.

Its food menu is plant-based, although The Works does not carry an explicit individual vegan label. Those are distinct pieces of information: the menu-wide description makes this a clear plant-based choice without needing to infer suitability from just one topping. Cashews are part of the order, which matters if you are also avoiding nuts.

Charlotte Street puts this choice among the historic centre’s buildings, so it suits a meal alongside sightseeing rather than a separate trip out of town. Choose it for a bagel-based meal rather than a cooked breakfast plate. Food service is Monday–Saturday, 9am–5pm.

Crave Downtown

Crave Downtown’s Avocado Toast is a topped sourdough order, not simply avocado on bread. Sliced avocado sits alongside hummus, pickled red onion, vegan taco meat and coriander, with a light drizzle of cashew queso, a cashew-based cheese-style sauce. That combination makes it a candidate for a savoury lunch on King Street.

Ask staff to confirm the complete Avocado Toast is vegan before ordering. The taco meat is explicitly vegan, but the whole item is not labelled that way and no specific vegan modification is given. The sauce’s name alone is not confirmation of everything in the meal.

If you prefer to build your lunch around greens or grains, Crave also has configurable wraps and bowls. You choose the base and five toppings, then optional add-ons and dressing. That flexibility lets you shape the meal around what you want to eat, with staff helping establish a suitable combination.

Buena Onda

Buena Onda is a family-run café whose scratch-made breakfast and lunch draw on Latin American influences. Its Breakfast Burrito can be made vegan with tofu scramble and vegan cheddar. That is a specified version of the dish, making this West King Street stop useful when you want a substantial breakfast-style order.

Ask for both substitutions when ordering. The standard Breakfast Burrito is not vegan, and requesting tofu alone does not complete the change. Naming the vegan version and its two substitutions makes your intended order clear without leaving the cheese choice implicit.

Breakfast and lunch are served throughout the café’s opening day, so the burrito remains an option when your morning meal slips towards lunchtime. The West King Street setting puts this meal outside the historic-centre streets, making it a food-led stop if you are spending time in West Augustine.

The Manatee Cafe

The Manatee Cafe, a predominantly vegetarian café in Westgate Plaza, is the State Road 16 option. Owner-chef Michael Ugarte’s sample menu includes Scrambled Tofu with vegetables, toast and a choice of side. You can choose salad, hash browns or grits, giving this breakfast-style plate several ways to suit your appetite.

Agree a fully vegan plate with staff before ordering Scrambled Tofu. The café offers vegan substitutions for certain items, but the whole plate is not identified as vegan and no fixed modification is specified. The decision includes the toast and your chosen side, not just the tofu and vegetables.

This is a meal to consider when your plans already bring you to the State Road 16 corridor. Choose the accompaniments as part of the order rather than treating them as incidental extras. The tofu-scramble photograph illustrates the dish type, not the café’s own serving.
