Nashville rewards time spent both listening and looking: the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum gives the music its history, while Lower Broadway lets you hear bands without planning an entire evening around a show. Four full sightseeing days leave room for the Parthenon, Black music history and neighbourhood afternoons, with a rest before dinner each day.
Arrive the previous evening and begin from downtown or SoBro. The Ryman and Grand Ole Opry House visits here are daytime tours, not performances, and the later days take you beyond the downtown walking circuit.
Where to stay and what to book

From SoBro, walk towards the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum for your first morning. For a Friday start, use Days 1, 3, 4, 2. For Saturday, use Days 1, 4, 2, 3. This keeps the morning museums away from their later Sunday openings and the State Museum away from Monday.
| Paid stop | Adult admission | Entry | Charges |
|---|---|---|---|
| Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum | $31.95, ages 13+ | Timed reservation encouraged | — |
| Ryman Self-Guided Tour | $25, autumn offer | Self-guided daytime tour | Plus tax, fees included |
| Parthenon | $15 | On-site, no individual reservation | 2.3% on card payments |
| National Museum of African American Music | $33.33, ages 18–64 | Standard museum entry | — |
| Grand Ole Opry House daytime tour | $46.65 | Advance booking recommended | Taxes and fees included |
| Listed-price subtotal per adult | $151.93 | With Ryman offer | Before Ryman tax and Parthenon surcharge |
Book the Opry tour online, because walk-up spaces can be limited. The official Total Access Pass was retired in 2024, so use individual tickets for these visits. Downtown is walkable. Day 2 uses bus connections between districts, while Day 4 needs a car or hired rides between its separated clusters.

Country-music artefacts, the Ryman’s auditorium and Lower Broadway bands make this a music-focused first day, ending with the skyline and dinner in SoBro. For a first visit, pair music history with a live band, rather than treating one attraction as Nashville’s universal number one.
At the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Sing Me Back Home: A Journey Through Country Music provides the broad introduction. The museum opens daily 9am–5pm. Afterwards, Music City Walk of Fame Park honours music figures through stars set into its paved paths.
Assembly Food Hall at Fifth + Broadway opens from 8am daily, although individual eatery hours vary. Choose among the counters serving when you arrive for lunch.
The Ryman Self-Guided Tour connects the auditorium with Opry broadcasts from 1943 to 1974. This is a daytime visit, not a concert. Regular tour hours are 9am–4pm daily.

Lower Broadway honky-tonks commonly welcome afternoon walk-ins without a cover, subject to each venue’s entry rules. Tip the band if you stay to listen. Supportive shoes help with the walking and standing, and the accommodation rest gives your feet a break.
The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge earns its evening pause for the skyline view near sunset. In short winter daylight, visit before resting, then return to SoBro for dinner.

Ends around 8:15pm
After downtown’s music day, the Parthenon’s classical columns and 12 South’s shops change the pace, with park time and a Belmont-Hillsboro dinner rounding off the evening. Set out from your central base again, using transport to reach Centennial Park.
The Parthenon is a full-scale replica of the ancient Athenian temple, and its interior museum makes this more than an exterior photograph stop. The morning visit works Monday–Saturday, when the interior opens 9am–4:30pm. Sunday opening is 12:30pm–4:30pm, so move this whole day rather than arrive at the published morning start.

Centennial Park’s sunken garden offers an optional landscaped walk before lunch around Elliston Place. The bus journey onward to 12 South involves a change, so treat the afternoon as a separate district outing rather than a continuous downtown stroll.
In 12 South, concentrate your browsing and café pause along 12th Avenue South around Linden Avenue. Sevier Park adds a wooded walking trail if you want more outdoor time. Cut the optional park walks first in heat or rain, and wear supportive shoes for the neighbourhood stretches.

After the accommodation rest, Fannie Mae Dees Park provides the evening pause before walking towards dinner in Belmont-Hillsboro. The park opens from dawn to 11pm, allowing a relaxed stop without making the evening another museum visit.

Following the Parthenon and 12 South outing, Rivers of Rhythm and Tennessee’s Indigenous and Civil War displays bring two different histories into focus, with market lunch and a Germantown evening between and after them. Begin downtown again. Keep this morning on Tuesday–Saturday, using the whole-day swaps above for Sunday or Monday.
The National Museum of African American Music’s Rivers of Rhythm gallery traces the development of African American musical traditions. Interactive activities let you create and record music as well as listen. Opening is 10am–5pm Tuesday–Saturday and noon–5pm Sunday and Monday.

The Tennessee State Capitol grounds detour leads to James K. Polk and Sarah Childress Polk’s graves. Omit it if the hill and steps would be tiring. Nashville Farmers’ Market’s indoor Market House opens daily 8am–8pm, with individual food businesses keeping varying hours.
At Tennessee State Museum, The First Peoples explores Indigenous history, while Civil War and Reconstruction provides a later chapter. Individual visitors can walk in without a reservation, and permanent-gallery admission is free. Shorten this collection visit before rushing both museums.

After Germantown’s history day, the Grand Ole Opry House takes you behind the scenes of a working music venue, followed by Five Points browsing, optional river paths and dinner near East Park. Set out again from your central accommodation, this time using a car or hired rides.
The public daytime backstage tour at the Grand Ole Opry House is a different experience from the Ryman’s self-guided visit. The day assumes a morning tour reservation, not a performance ticket. Backstage and stage availability shape the visit, and access onto the stage is not guaranteed.

Two Rivers Park adds a walk along the paved Cumberland River Greenway before lunch around Music Valley Drive. If your reserved tour falls later, remove this optional walk first rather than squeeze lunch into the journey across town.
At Five Points, leave the vehicle and slow down for neighbourhood browsing and coffee. Walk locally, but use rides between the day’s separate clusters. The long afternoon pause is a deliberate change from the museum-heavy mornings.

Shelby Bottoms offers paved walking and cycling paths along the Cumberland River, reached from the nature-centre access point. This is an optional outdoor extension, not another compulsory sight. In heat or wet weather, stay longer over coffee instead.
Return to your accommodation before the evening. East Park, open from dawn to 11pm, makes a short outdoor pause before dinner in the Main Street area nearby. The final stretch is on foot, so you can finish the stay with neighbourhood time rather than another cross-city outing.
Late arrivals, early departures and weather
- Late first-day arrival: move either the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum or the Ryman tour to Day 3’s afternoon, replacing Tennessee State Museum. Preserve the other downtown music-history visit and some Lower Broadway listening.
- Early fourth-day departure: drop the Opry outing if the reserved morning tour and cross-city journey cannot fit. Keep Five Points only if it leaves a comfortable departure margin.
- Rain: remove Centennial Park’s garden, Sevier Park’s trail, Two Rivers Park and Shelby Bottoms before cutting the main interior visits.
- Heat: shorten exposed park walks and the Capitol grounds detour, while keeping café pauses and the accommodation rests.
- Short winter daylight: move the pedestrian-bridge pause ahead of the Day 1 accommodation rest, then have dinner in SoBro.
Four full days are enough for a broad first visit without making every afternoon another museum session. These days combine country-music history and bands, African American musical traditions, the Parthenon and Tennessee history, with slower time in 12 South, Germantown and East Nashville. That breadth depends on arriving before the first sightseeing morning.
For a shorter stay, preserve one substantial music-history visit, one live-music experience and one neighbourhood outing. Lower Broadway supplies the listening, while 12 South or Five Points provides the slower afternoon. Remove optional extensions before cutting the time you need to enjoy those anchors.
If you have only a weekend, the two-day Nashville weekend itinerary provides a complete shorter plan instead of asking you to compress all four days. For a partial final day, choose the neighbourhood time that fits your departure rather than keeping the Opry simply because it was the original morning anchor.
