Elvis Presley’s gold Cadillac at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Ryman’s wooden pews and an evening Grand Ole Opry performance give this Nashville stay its musical thread. Five full days also leave room for Germantown, park walks and Franklin’s Civil War sites, with Downtown or SoBro as your base.

Move whole days around your Opry performance, keeping the history morning on Tuesday–Saturday and the Parthenon morning on Wednesday–Saturday. The suggested starts fit those museum mornings, but the show date determines the final order. Reserve the performance first, then coordinate museum entry and the Ryman’s timed self-guided tour.
| Daytime admission | Adult price | Ticket condition |
|---|---|---|
| Country Music Hall of Fame | $31.95 | Advance entry encouraged |
| Ryman self-guided tour | $25 + tax | Fees included, through 31 October 2026 |
| Parthenon | $15 | Buy on-site |
| Belmont Guided Mansion Tour | $22 | Advance purchase recommended |
| Carter House Classic Tour | $22 | Time assigned on arrival |
| Carnton Classic Tour | $22 | Time assigned on arrival |
| Carter House–Carnton Combination | $27 | Both Classic Tours and grounds |
| Daytime subtotal with Combination | $120.95 | Before applicable tax |
The Combination Ticket also covers outbuildings and gardens at both sites and does not expire, so visits can fall on different dates. It costs less than the two single tickets. The subtotal covers the four paid Nashville interiors and the Franklin combination, with the evening show separate.
From Downtown or SoBro, walk towards the Country Music Hall of Fame on Rep. John Lewis Way South. Both it and the Ryman are easy walks from this base, with the approach depending on your accommodation.
Spring and autumn are most comfortable for walking. Carry water, supportive shoes and rain protection. Summer heat, humidity and thunderstorms favour shorter outdoor walks. Winter can be cold, wet or icy, so bring park pauses forward while daylight remains.

Country instruments, stage costumes and the Ryman’s historic stage make this a music-led day, with downtown lanes between the interiors and Lower Broadway bands after dinner. Set off from your Downtown or SoBro base for the opening museum.
The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is this itinerary’s first priority. Elvis Presley’s gold Cadillac and artefacts from Hank Williams and the Carter Family connect performers to country music’s history. Advance timed entry is encouraged, rather than compulsory, for an unhurried start.

Hatch Show Print makes an optional poster-shop stop. Printers Alley’s narrow passage recalls the area’s printing and nightlife past, while adjacent lanes broaden the architectural walk before SoBro lunch.
At the Ryman Auditorium, wooden pews and stained glass frame the original stage. Study those features on the self-guided visit without attending a show. Entry is for your reserved tour date and time, so keep the lunch-to-tour transition clear.

After resting, the optional John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge gives Cumberland River views, best enjoyed in late-afternoon light. Riverfront Park offers a riverside pause before dinner. Lower Broadway’s honky-tonks commonly have live bands throughout the evening, so choose by the music you hear.

At the Tennessee State Museum, focus on First Peoples, frontier and early statehood, then Civil War and Reconstruction. These galleries give a coherent overview without reading every display. Individual admission is free and needs no reservation.

Nashville Farmers’ Market’s market house opens daily 8am–8pm, but food businesses set their own serving hours. Choose lunch from those serving when you arrive. At the Tennessee State Capitol, follow designated pedestrian routes, which can change with construction.
Germantown’s nineteenth-century buildings and brick pavements reward a slow architectural walk. The optional Church of the Assumption exterior adds a church landmark. Return to your accommodation before Morgan Park’s outdoor pause, then enjoy the neighbourhood’s concentration of independent restaurants, cafés and bars over dinner.

Athena, Centennial Park’s lake and Belmont Mansion replace yesterday’s state-history galleries with art and house interiors, followed by 12 South browsing and dinner. Assign this morning-led day to Wednesday–Saturday. From your base, use a car or hired ride to the west-side cluster, walking within clusters and driving between the separated ones.
Inside the Parthenon, the 42-foot gilded Athena dominates, while pediment and metope casts, replicas of the temple’s sculptural decoration, reveal the ancient building’s detail. Individuals buy admission on-site without timed entry.

Carter House’s battlefield traces, Franklin’s Victorian storefronts and Carnton’s period rooms make a more sober historical day after yesterday’s parks and interiors, ending back in Nashville with Gulch dinner. Use Monday–Saturday for this departure, since Carter House’s later Sunday opening does not fit the first arrival. Leave your Downtown base by car, walking around Franklin’s centre and driving between the separate sites.
Carter House’s surviving bullet holes, bloodstains and cotton gin site bring the Battle of Franklin into focus. Classic Tour times are assigned on arrival, with tours typically spaced 30–40 minutes apart. Buy tickets online or on-site. If assigned later, take that waiting allowance from the subsequent town-centre free time.
Around Public Square and Main Street, preserved Victorian-era storefronts, brick pavements and period streetlamps reward the town walk. St Paul’s Episcopal Church is an optional exterior detour before Main Street lunch.

Carnton adds period rooms and furnishings, historic outbuildings and the Confederate cemetery. Its Classic Tour time is assigned on arrival, typically with a 30–40-minute wait. Use the visit’s opening portion for that wait, then follow the guided interior with cemetery and grounds time.
Fort Granger’s earthen parapets and rifle pits make a short optional final Civil War stop. Return to Nashville for your accommodation rest, then Wasioto Park’s riverside pause. Finish with dinner in the Gulch, whose railway past contrasts with its present dining district.

Opry arrival and performance

Ends around 8:50pm
Shelby Bottoms’ greenway and Fatherland Street’s independent shops bring you east after yesterday’s Franklin excursion, with an early Music Valley dinner before the Grand Ole Opry. Set off again from your accommodation, using car or hired rides between the separated clusters.
Choose a paved out-and-back stretch at Shelby Bottoms, rather than trying to cover the whole greenway. The main routes are generally flat, while natural paths can be uneven or muddy after rain. Access runs from dawn until dusk. Shorten the walk in heat or rain, with Shelby Park’s lake walk the first optional cut.
MaxKelley620 · CC BY 4.0 · Edited
Five Points supplies the lunch break before walking to Fatherland Street’s shops. Optional East Park adds neighbourhood green space, but keep browsing short enough to return to your accommodation. Two Rivers Park offers the final outdoor pause, which should move earlier in winter rather than competing with the show.
Move this entire day to your booked Grand Ole Opry performance date. Shows vary by date, so choose the performance before arranging the other days. After Music Valley dinner, arrive early at the Grand Ole Opry House for screening and finding your seat. The usual performance lasts about two hours. Buy an evening performance ticket, not a backstage-tour ticket, to hear the programme.
Shorter stays, late starts and early departures
- Four days: remove the Franklin excursion first for a Nashville-only stay.
- Three days: also compress the Parthenon, Belmont and 12 South day before dropping the core downtown music visits. Keep the Opry only on a feasible show night.
- Late start: cut the day’s marked optional stops and shorten neighbourhood browsing before moving or abandoning a timed main visit.
- Early departure: move the Opry to an earlier evening, and keep the final day near your Downtown or SoBro accommodation.
Five days give you neighbourhoods and a nearby excursion, not just downtown highlights. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Ryman remain the core for a first music-focused visit. If you choose three days in Nashville, a complete shorter city stay helps redistribute those visits without squeezing Franklin into the same time. Protect reserved tours and the performance first, then use the optional walks as your flexible cuts.
