Colmar Christmas Market Parking: Costs & Shuttles

Choose Rapp for the shortest walk to Colmar’s Christmas markets, or Gare/Bleylé and Saint-Josse for lower-cost parking with a longer walk. Parc des Expositions offers a seasonal shuttle alternative on selected weekends. Place de la Cathédrale, beside the cathedral in the historic centre, is the shared destination for the walking comparisons below.

A four-hour parking stay needs to cover getting to the markets and back as well as browsing the stalls. For an overnight visit, choose somewhere that suits both your luggage and the time you want to leave the next day.

For a short visit with tired children or bags, Rapp trades a higher charge for less walking. Saint-Josse suits a lower-cost visit if everyone can manage the walk, while Gare/Bleylé is useful when you arrive on the station side and can either walk or use its seasonal shuttle. Parc des Expositions suits an eligible weekend when you prefer a bus connection to a central garage.

For a 24-hour stay, Gare/Bleylé combines a day tariff with unrestricted parking hours. Saint-Josse also permits overnight parking, but its seasonal access hours matter if you need the car late in the evening. Accommodation parking may be more convenient for unloading luggage.

The four-hour charge covers the whole time your car is parked, including both onward journeys. Free shuttle travel is separate from the parking charge. A shuttle visit also involves boarding and a final walk, so choose it for the connection rather than assuming it removes all walking.

Driving restrictions around the markets

Colmar’s vehicle restriction covers the city centre, including the historic centre and Little Venice (Petite Venise). Leave the car outside the pedestrian centre while visiting the markets. The parking choice is not permission to continue driving towards the cathedral or your accommodation.

A hotel reservation or a disability does not exempt your car from the closure. Hotel guests can drop off luggage outside the restricted hours. An accommodation’s parking space and permission to drive through the centre are different things: arrange your arrival around the closure if unloading requires entry.

Hired cars and foreign-registered cars are subject to the same vehicle-access rule. Plan the approach around your chosen car park, not a route through the historic centre. For a luggage-heavy overnight arrival, keeping essentials in one manageable bag lets you leave the car and reach your accommodation on foot without carrying everything at once.

Parc des Expositions lets you leave the car on the northern side of Colmar and approach the markets by shuttle. The visitor-car entrance is on Avenue de la Foire aux Vins, outside the city-centre vehicle closure. Choose this site for a shuttle visit on its operating weekends, rather than for a weekday arrival.

Parking costs €3 per day. Board at Parc des Expositions and alight at Rue Saint-Éloi, then continue on foot to Place de la Cathédrale. Keep the return stop in mind while browsing the markets: you return to Rue Saint-Éloi, not to the cathedral square, to catch the bus back to your car.

Scheduled buses are accessible to passengers with reduced mobility; additional high-demand vehicles are not guaranteed to be accessible. If accessible boarding is essential, the distinction matters more than the convenience of taking whichever bus arrives next. A shorter garage walk may suit some visitors, but it is not a substitute for accessible boarding when you cannot manage that walk.

Gare/Bleylé offers a station-side arrival at 6 Route de Rouffach, south-west of the centre. You can reach the car park without driving into the pedestrian centre. Choose it if you want the option of walking rather than depending entirely on a shuttle. The bus serves the Municipal Theatre, so you still continue on foot into the market area.

The direct walk from Gare/Bleylé to Place de la Cathédrale is about 1.3 km, taking about 18 minutes. It frees you from the shuttle’s service window and makes a later return possible, provided everyone is comfortable walking back after the markets. Allow extra time for bags, children and busy pavements.

The 2025 shuttle accessibility information described all Christmas shuttle lines as accessible to passengers with reduced mobility. For a mobility-dependent visit, treat that as earlier-season information rather than a detailed boarding arrangement for 2026. The distance of the walking alternative should remain part of your choice.

Rapp and Saint-Josse on foot

Rapp is the shortest walking option among these car parks. From its entrance at 7 Avenue de la République, beside Place Rapp, the walk to Place de la Cathédrale is about 400 metres, taking about 5 minutes. That shorter approach helps when children tire or you are carrying bags, although you still need to walk around the markets themselves.

After Rapp’s first paid daytime band, each additional 15 minutes costs €0.30. Its night tariff, from 19:00 to 07:00, is €1 for a stay of one hour to one hour and 15 minutes, then €0.20 per additional 15 minutes. An overnight visit spans different charging periods rather than a flat day rate.

Saint-Josse, on Rue Saint-Josse, offers a lower-cost approach from the south-east. The walk to Place de la Cathédrale is about 750 metres, taking about 10 minutes. Choose it if the longer return walk remains comfortable after your visit, particularly with shopping or a pushchair.

Both garages are Christmas-market parking alternatives, not permission to enter the pedestrian centre. For an overnight stay, accommodation parking can reduce luggage carrying if it is close to your room, while a public garage lets you park independently of the accommodation. Choose by the luggage walk and the time you need the car, not by the overnight charge alone.

Is bringing the car worthwhile?

Bringing a car for Colmar’s Christmas markets

Pros

  • Useful for a wider road trip with stops beyond Colmar.
  • Lets you carry luggage between overnight stops without transferring it between trains.
  • Offers a choice between central walking access and a seasonal park-and-ride connection.

Cons

  • The car cannot take you through the centre during the market closure.
  • Parking time includes getting to the markets and back, not only browsing.
  • A shuttle adds boarding and return-service dependence; it does not remove the final walk.

Bring the car for the wider journey, rather than for moving around the markets. For a visit confined to the pedestrian centre, arriving without it avoids choosing a garage and returning to retrieve it. Travelling with children may favour Rapp’s shorter walk, while needing reliable accessible boarding is a different requirement and calls for attention to the shuttle arrangements.

If excursions are your main reason for considering a car, day trips from Colmar by train and bus offer alternatives for a longer stay without driving.
