Craft Beer in Venice: Where to Sit, Drink and Eat

For a seated beer stop in Venice, choose by appetite and where you want to sit. Il Santo Bevitore offers rotating craft taps and a small salami sandwich, Birreria Zanon has canal-side tables, and Marciano Pub Venezia suits a burger meal. All three are in Cannaregio. Birraria La Corte, in Campo San Polo, pairs beer with wood-fired pizza in a restaurant setting.

The choice is between a drink with a snack and a meal worth sitting down for. Start with the beers available when you arrive rather than a particular named pour, and let indoor shelter or outdoor seating help decide the venue.

Beer bars and pub meals

VenueAreaOrderTypical spend per person

Birreria ZanonCannaregioBeer€5–8, beer only
Marciano Pub VeneziaCannaregioMarciano burger + beer€22–28
Birraria La CorteCampo San PoloMarangona pizza + beer€25–35

These are rounded spending estimates for the orders shown, with one beer each. Larger servings and stronger or specialist beers tend to move you towards the upper end. Allow roughly €5–8 for 400–500 ml of beer, or €6–9 for a 568 ml British pint where offered. A smaller 250–330 ml glass commonly costs around €4–6, but not every draught beer comes by the pint.

Ask what is on tap and describe the style you enjoy before ordering. For a drink, walking in is the ordinary approach, but a free outdoor table is not guaranteed. Indoor seats offer shelter, while canal-side or square-facing seats make the setting part of the stop. Reserve a meal if eating at a particular time matters.

If a modest meal matters more than the beer selection, the separate budget meals and snack stops offer a food-first way to choose where to eat.

Il Santo Bevitore

Il Santo Bevitore suits a drink chosen from a changing craft-beer selection. Its 21 taps rotate, so ask what is pouring rather than arriving with a fixed beer in mind. Tell the bar staff whether you prefer something light, bitter or richer to narrow the choice.

The paninetto, a small sandwich, combines fresh Veneto salami with bread made using local ingredients. It is a snack to accompany your beer rather than a full pub meal, useful when you want something to eat without settling in for dinner.

There are a few bar seats indoors, but the pub’s small interior makes the outdoor canal-side tables an important part of the seating. A little patio beside the bar offers another place to sit. Seating is self-service, not table service: order at the bar rather than waiting for someone to take your order at the table.

The Rio della Misericordia gives you another stretch of Cannaregio to explore before or after your drink. Follow its canalside walkways for a look at the district beyond the pub, rather than making this only a stop at the bar.

Birreria Zanon

Birreria Zanon is a choice for beer beside the canal on Fondamenta degli Ormesini. The outdoor tables are few, so sitting by the water depends on finding one free. Inside, booths give you a seated alternative when the canal-side places are occupied or the weather turns.

Beer and cicchetti, small Venetian bar snacks, make this a place for a drink with something light to eat. Choose snacks from those available at the bar. Cicchetti can include bread topped with fish, vegetables or cheese, and suit a small appetite rather than the commitment of a restaurant meal.

Marciano Pub Venezia

Marciano Pub Venezia suits a seated beer with a substantial burger. The Marciano burger layers bacon, bacon jam, a sunny-side-up egg, cheddar and barbecue sauce over the patty. The combination makes a rich order: the sweet bacon jam and sauce sit alongside the salty bacon and cheese, rather than keeping the burger simple.

You can sit at the bar or at a pub table, with sofas indoors as another option. Outdoor tables occupy the narrow lane in summer only, so the indoor seating is the year-round choice. This is a pub stop where you can make the food the centre of the visit, not just something small to accompany a drink.

Choose the Cannaregio branch on Calle Loredan, not Marciano Pub in Marghera, which is on the mainland. The Venice branch keeps this meal within the historic centre.

Birraria La Corte

Birraria La Corte is a pizza-and-beer meal in Campo San Polo. Its wood-fired pizza makes it a restaurant choice rather than a quick bar snack. Order the Marangona for burrata cream, black-ink cuttlefish, gremolata (a herb-and-citrus garnish usually made with parsley, garlic and lemon zest) and fried capers. The combination brings creamy cheese and seafood together with a salty, crisp finish.

The indoor dining room, inner courtyard and outdoor seats facing the square give you distinct settings for the meal. Ask for your preferred area when reserving, rather than treating a reservation as a promise of a square-facing table. The courtyard offers an outdoor setting away from the open square.

Birraria La Corte opens every day for lunch and dinner. Plan this as a meal-time stop, not an all-afternoon pub visit: the break between services matters if you are looking for somewhere to sit with a beer after lunch.
