Krakow’s Main Square, Kazimierz and Wawel reward different kinds of attention: excavated trading streets, Jewish heritage, occupation history and royal interiors. Three full days let you see these without giving every afternoon to a museum, with accommodation breaks and evenings in Planty, Podgórze and Dębniki.

Three days is not too long if you want both the history-led Old Town and Kazimierz days and a slower afternoon after Wawel. Planty surrounds the historic centre with pedestrian paths leading towards the gates and Main Square, making it a useful accommodation area for the first morning. Your exact approach depends on which side of the ring you stay.
| Visit | Adult ticket | Purchase or reservation |
|---|---|---|
| Rynek Underground | PLN 45 | Advance timed ticket recommended |
| St Mary’s Basilica | PLN 20 | Buy on arrival; no advance reservations |
| Old Synagogue | PLN 22 | Online or box office; online priority |
| Schindler’s Factory | PLN 60 | Named timed ticket online |
| Castle | Second Floor | — | Advance online ticket recommended |
| Wawel Cathedral | PLN 26 | Online, machine or ticket office |
Without an advance Rynek Underground ticket you may miss your preferred visit. Old Synagogue tickets carry a date and approximate entry time. Capacity can still mean a wait, but individual visitors do not need an advance reservation. Wawel Castle tickets are sold up to one month ahead: enter at the time indicated, and do not arrive late for a guided visit.
Treat lunch as a proper break rather than another stop to hurry through. Visitors commonly eat between about 12:00 and 15:00, and dinner is usually around 18:00–21:00. The evening meal areas keep you in the neighbourhood you have just explored. Krakow daily budgets extend these admission choices to accommodation, meals and everyday spending.

Rynek Underground’s trading remains, St Mary’s blue star-vaulted ceiling and Floriańska Street make this an archaeology-and-art day, easing into Planty and dinner around Small Market Square. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobbles.
Rynek Underground preserves market-stall foundations, paved streets and everyday objects, with multimedia installations helping you picture the medieval city. Afterwards, the optional Cloth Hall arcade offers amber jewellery, crafts and souvenirs without entering the upstairs gallery. Leave space to sit in Main Square before lunch around Szczepański Square.

St Florian’s Gate retains projecting stonework with openings for dropping objects on attackers. The Barbican stands in front of it, once joined by a fortified passage defending the entrance. Optional St Francis’ Basilica adds Wyspiański’s God the Father stained glass. In rain, bring this indoor stop forward before the exposed walk.
After returning to your accommodation, Planty’s mostly level paths, mature trees and benches offer a gentler evening beside the Old Town. Walk towards Small Market Square for dinner. Dusk suits the park, but use remaining daylight in winter.

After the Old Town day, Szeroka’s synagogues and the Podgórze chair memorial lead into a more demanding history day, ending with a riverside pause and dinner around Podgórze Market Square. Set off from your Planty-ring base towards Kazimierz. On Mondays, move this day to preserve the factory visit. Its afternoon access limit is below.
Szeroka is framed by the Old Synagogue and Remuh Synagogue and cemetery, making Jewish heritage visible before you enter a museum.

The Old Synagogue’s Gothic ribbed vaulting gives the displays of Jewish rites and everyday life their historic setting. Józefa Street offers an optional view towards the synagogue at its eastern end.

Plac Nowy is a useful snack pause before lunch around Meiselsa Street, away from Main Square. Pierogi are filled dumplings, commonly with potato and cheese, meat or cabbage, while zapiekanka is an open baguette snack, usually topped with mushrooms and cheese. Keep the snack light if you want a seated lunch.
Optional Father Bernatek Footbridge carries Jerzy Kędziora’s suspended acrobat sculptures above the river on the way to Ghetto Heroes Square.
Ghetto Heroes Square’s empty chairs commemorate Jewish residents deported and murdered during the Holocaust, evoking the belongings and lives abandoned when people were forced to leave.
Schindler’s Factory’s permanent exhibition, Krakow under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945, follows the city and its inhabitants under German occupation, rather than simply telling Schindler’s story. Drop optional detours before shortening this museum visit.

Ends around 20:15
After Podgórze’s occupation-history afternoon, Wawel’s State Rooms, royal tombs and Renaissance arcades bring a different chapter of Krakow into view, followed by dinner around Dębniki Market Square. Set off again from your accommodation towards Wawel Hill. Move this day if it falls on Monday or Sunday: the castle’s Monday opening and cathedral’s Sunday start do not fit this morning’s order.
Choose Castle | Second Floor for the historic State Rooms and the halls displaying Ottoman Turkish Tents. This is the castle interior visit to keep, rather than adding several exhibitions before lunch.

Wawel Cathedral’s royal tombs include the resting places of Polish kings. Its separate tourist ticket also includes Sigismund’s Bell, the Cathedral Museum and Archdiocesan Museum: treat these as choices alongside the core cathedral and tombs, not a requirement to rush through everything. Individual visitors do not need an advance reservation, but cover shoulders and back.

Dębnicki Park offers winding paths, lawns and shaded seats. St Stanislaus Kostka Church adds a historical exterior stop: Karol Wojtyła attended regularly while living in Dębniki from 1938 to 1944, and served as an altar boy.
Bulwar Poleski gives you a riverbank pause towards Wawel, best enjoyed in late-afternoon daylight before dinner around Dębniki Market Square. In winter, move the river pause earlier and drop the optional park. Clothing and daylight advice for winter in Krakow helps with this outdoor stretch. Heat or rain also makes the park the first stop to remove.
Two days, late starts and early departures
With two full days, keep the Old Town anchors and move Wawel to the second morning. Retain Rynek Underground and St Mary’s on the first day, with the gate and Barbican if time allows. On the second, choose Castle | Second Floor and the cathedral before a reduced Kazimierz afternoon centred on Szeroka and the Old Synagogue. This replaces the full Podgórze museum sequence, rather than squeezing it in after Wawel.
A late first morning loses the optional Cloth Hall and St Francis’ visits first. Keep the allowance for Rynek Underground and the basilica intact, and move any timed ticket affected by the later start. On the Kazimierz day, Józefa Street and the footbridge detour are the first cuts, so preserve time for the chair memorial and the factory exhibition.
For an early final departure, retain only the Wawel admissions whose complete visits fit before you need to leave. Move an affected timed castle reservation rather than arriving late or cutting the visit short. A single interior visit is preferable to buying both tickets and rushing between them. Dębniki and the optional courtyard can go entirely.
Auschwitz-Birkenau, the former Nazi concentration and extermination camp complex, and Wieliczka Salt Mine are separate excursion choices. Either replaces part of this city stay, not an extra stop after one of these days. If you prefer space to reflect after the occupation-history museum, keep the slower Dębniki half-day instead of adding another major visit.
