5 Thermal-Bath Day Trips from Krakow

These five thermal-bath day trips take you south from Krakow towards the Tatras. Choose by how you want to spend your time in the water, whether that means outdoor bathing, family attractions or a quieter pool session.

All five outings suit a full day once you include the return journey. Driving leaves more time at the pools, while independent bus trips to the village complexes involve a connection in Zakopane, so your return transport matters as much as your pool ticket.

Drives start at Krakow Main railway station (Kraków Główny), and buses leave MDA bus station beside it. Bus times cover the separate outward travel legs, so allow extra time for the connection in Zakopane and getting to MDA from your accommodation. The rail time includes the station walk. Majerbus is a separate coach option from the FlixBus outward journeys.

There is no single best bath for everyone. Match the attractions to your group, then allow a full day for bathing and return travel.

Gorący Potok

Gorący Potok’s sulphur geothermal pools and rustic design make outdoor bathing the main reason to travel to Szaflary. The outdoor thermal pools are available year-round, so this is a choice for spending your bathing session outside rather than centring the day on an indoor pool hall.

Choose a full-day outing by car, driving directly from central Krakow to the complex and leaving time for the journey back. A timed ticket suits a shorter soak, while unlimited entry gives you more freedom to pause between pools without watching the clock.

The pool area opens daily from 09:00 to 22:00. Ordinary individual entry does not require advance reservation, but online purchase is particularly useful for weekends, peak periods and events. Weekend tariffs are higher, so match the ticket to both your visit day and how long you want to stay.

Terma Bania

Terma Bania in Białka Tatrzańska is the family-oriented choice for slides and active pool time, with the Relax Zone offering a quieter part of the visit. The compared pool admission covers both Fun and Relax Zones, allowing your group to balance water attractions with less energetic bathing.

Driving brings you directly to the complex for a full-day outing, including the return to Krakow. By public transport, take FlixBus from Krakow MDA to Zakopane, then the onward FlixBus service to Białka Tatrzańska Środkowa Lodowisko. The onward leg takes about three quarters of an hour and includes the final approach on foot to the baths.

A separate alternative is line 3, Zakopane–Groń, serving Białka Tatrzańska Szkoła. This is not the FlixBus arrival stop, so keep the service and stop names together when planning your arrival and return. Leave the day primarily for bathing rather than adding another substantial excursion.

The longer pool ticket gives families more room for breaks between attractions. Saunarium access requires separate admission, or a ticket explicitly combining zones. The pool ticket alone is not enough for a sauna-focused visit.

Chochołów Thermal Baths

Chochołów Thermal Baths, locally Chochołowskie Termy, suits a group wanting slides, outdoor bathing and Tatra views within one large leisure complex. Keep this a full-day outing from Krakow: moving between activities and taking a break can readily use the bathing allowance without adding a separate sightseeing excursion.

The pool zone opens daily from 09:30 to 21:30. Saunarium admission is separate from the pool ticket, so a sauna session changes which ticket you need.

Ordinary individual entry needs no advance reservation. If online tickets have sold out, you can still buy at the ticket offices.

Driving takes you directly to the baths. For the independent bus outing, travel by FlixBus to Zakopane, then take the Zakopane–Czarny Dunajec bus to Witów Dolny Chochołowskie Termy. That onward leg takes about 28 minutes, including the final walk to the complex.

Terma Bukovina

Terma Bukovina in Bukowina Tatrzańska is the nature-oriented choice for a quieter pool-focused day. Give bathing and breaks the main share of the visit rather than combining it with a substantial mountain outing. Sauna time can complement the pools, but each sauna-zone entry with the timed pool ticket costs an extra PLN 33.

Drive directly from Krakow, or take FlixBus through Zakopane to Bukowina Tatrzańska DW. The onward FlixBus leg takes about 35 minutes, including the final walk. Line 3, Zakopane–Groń, is a separate alternative using Bukowina Tatrzańska Klin. Count the return journey when setting aside a full day.

An online ticket does not reserve a place. The pool prices are starting prices, and both the timed and all-day choices exclude sauna access.

Termy Zakopiańskie

Termy Zakopiańskie is the choice for bathing within Zakopane itself, rather than in a surrounding village. Also known as Aqua Park Zakopane, it lets you make a short town visit around your pool session. An outing from Krakow still takes a full day when you include travel back.

Take EIP5352 from Krakow Main station to Zakopane, then continue on foot. The station walk is about 1.9 km and takes about 28 minutes, so leave time for it before entering the pools. Driving directly to the complex is another option.

When choosing a trip labelled “Zakopane thermal baths”, look for the venue name: Terma Bania, Terma Bukovina and Chochołów Thermal Baths are different destinations outside town. If sightseeing matters more than a substantial bathing session, choose the Zakopane town and viewpoint day trip as a separate alternative rather than trying to fit both full outings into one day.

Cars, transfers and public transport

  • Identify the named bath, not just a “Zakopane thermal baths” label.
  • Compare actual bathing time with the ticket allowance, leaving room to change.
  • Confirm whether admission covers pools alone, relaxation areas or saunas.
  • Understand the return arrangement, including the pick-up point and whether departure is fixed.

These are the useful questions when comparing organised transfers. Independent village trips instead start with FlixBus from Krakow MDA to Zakopane, a journey of about 2 hours, followed by the onward service described for each bath.

Majerbus is a separate scheduled-coach option. Its timetable lists 16 departures from Krakow MDA, some with weekday restrictions, within a seven-day service. The timetable update took effect on 24 April 2026. Do not treat the advertised “over 20 trips a day” as departures available every day.

Winter road conditions can reduce your useful bathing time even by car. A long final walk or a town or mountain visit has the same effect: choose the pool allowance around the day you can actually spend there, including the return.
