Nearest Airport to Strasbourg: Which One to Choose

Strasbourg Airport (SXB) is the nearest commercial passenger airport to Strasbourg. Choose it when its flight suits your trip, but a better flight to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, EuroAirport, Frankfurt Airport or Paris Charles de Gaulle may justify a longer onward journey. Place Kléber, in the city centre, is the endpoint for the airport transfers compared below.

Which airport should you choose?

Onward travel to Place Kléber from the starting points below. Times exclude flights, immigration, other airport formalities, baggage reclaim, boarding and additional connection waits.

SXB is the simplest choice if the flight works for you. With children or heavy luggage, fewer boarding steps can outweigh a cheaper flight. FKB needs a meaningful saving. EuroAirport offers more European flight choices but a longer bus-and-train journey. FRA and CDG make sense when a suitable flight compensates for the rail transfer.

The FKB and EuroAirport bus prices are only part of the transfer cost. FKB’s rail minimum is conditional. Late landings can mean an overnight stop rather than a same-day arrival in Strasbourg. FRA also has direct airport trains, distinct from the connecting option timed here. At CDG, arrival outside Terminal 2F adds an airport transfer.

Selected nonstop origins in SXB’s provisional Summer 2026 programme.

Strasbourg Airport lies about 10 km southwest of the city centre. Its booking code is SXB. Strasbourg-Entzheim is its former name, reflecting its location in Entzheim. Entzheim is not a second airport to compare.

The summer flight programme includes limited operating periods, so a summer route is not necessarily a winter option. There are no scheduled nonstop flights from the USA to SXB. A connecting flight to SXB or a flight to a larger gateway with onward rail are the alternatives.

From Strasbourg Airport’s passenger terminal, a covered footbridge and walkway lead to Entzheim-Aéroport station. The access walk is about 1.1 km and about 16 minutes: allow for this before you reach the platform, particularly with luggage. Take a TER regional train to Strasbourg-Ville. That leg takes about 11 minutes without a change. The short train ride is only one part of reaching the centre.

At Strasbourg-Ville, continue on foot to Place Kléber. This final walk is shared by all the rail arrivals below. It brings you into the central shopping area rather than leaving you at the station.

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB)

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport uses the code FKB. Ryanair serves it, with London Stansted, Alicante and Valencia among the nonstop origins in the flight list for 4 October 2026. Choose FKB for a flight that saves enough to justify two onward changes, not simply because it is marketed as low-cost.

FKB has no railway station or direct public-transport service to Strasbourg. Take bus 215 to Baden-Baden station, about 29 minutes, then the RE2 regional train to Offenburg, also about 29 minutes. The Schwarzwaldbahn regional service runs hourly on weekdays and weekends. From Offenburg, the RS4/TER cross-border train takes about 30 minutes to Strasbourg-Ville. Continue to Place Kléber on foot.

The advertised rail starting price applies only to selected trains and dates, subject to availability. Do not treat it as the fare for every departure when comparing the overall saving against SXB. Each interchange also means getting yourself and your luggage onto another vehicle.

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg has three booking codes for the same airport: BSL for Basel, MLH for Mulhouse and EAP for EuroAirport as a whole. The London airport matters when choosing your flight, because the summer programme spans different airlines and departure airports, with some seasonal services.

Distribus Line 11 takes about 11 minutes to Saint-Louis station. Buses run every 15–30 minutes Monday–Friday and every 30–50 minutes on weekends and public holidays. Continue on a direct TER to Strasbourg-Ville, about an hour and a quarter. The final airport bus leaves at 23:45 daily, but that does not mean a Strasbourg train is still available.

From Strasbourg-Ville, the final walk to Place Kléber is about 1 km and about 14 minutes. Cross the station forecourt and head towards the historic centre. With bulky luggage, this walk deserves as much consideration as the bus-to-train change at Saint-Louis.

Frankfurt Airport and Paris CDG

Frankfurt Airport and Paris Charles de Gaulle are useful alternatives when either offers a flight that suits your departure point. Prefer a direct airport train when its departure fits your arrival. It avoids the extra boarding steps of a connecting railway journey, although the gap between landing and departure still has to accommodate immigration, baggage reclaim and reaching the platform.

Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) is not Frankfurt-Hahn (HHN), a separate airport. At FRA, follow signs for Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof, the long-distance station, rather than the regional station. Direct DB ICE trains to Strasbourg exist, alongside connections through Karlsruhe.

The connecting option compared above starts at Terminal 1, with an access leg of about 1 minute to the long-distance station. Allow extra time to navigate from your actual arrivals area with luggage. The domestic rail journey uses an ICE connection through Mannheim to Karlsruhe Hbf and takes just over an hour. From Karlsruhe, direct DB/SNCF trains take 41–46 minutes to Strasbourg-Ville, followed by the walk to Place Kléber.

There are about 34 airport-to-Karlsruhe connections a day, including up to nine direct ones. Cross-border departures from Karlsruhe are unevenly spaced, so a convenient first train need not produce a convenient onward connection. A direct airport-to-Strasbourg train can remove both interchanges on the evaluated path.

Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG)

Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) has direct SNCF TGV INOUI services from Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV to Strasbourg-Ville. Choose an airport-station ticket, not a departure from Paris Gare de l’Est, if you want to follow this direct rail option. Gare de l’Est is a separate city-centre departure requiring travel into Paris first.

From Terminal 2F, the walk to the TGV station is about 700 metres and about 10 minutes. Arrival at another terminal adds an airport transfer before this path. The evaluated direct TGV leg takes about 2 hours. Different direct services have published journey times of 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 40 minutes.

The airport–Strasbourg route averages six services a day, including connecting options. On 5 October 2026, five direct departures are listed. Allow time for arrivals formalities before your chosen train, as direct departures are spread through the day rather than running as a frequent shuttle.
