Restaurants in Florence with a View: Five Picks

A Florence view can mean the city spread beneath a rooftop, Ponte Vecchio close across the Arno or the skyline seen from Villa Bardini. Choose the sightline you want before choosing the restaurant: a riverside address alone does not tell you what you will see from your chair. These five places make different evenings, from a single cocktail to a long dinner.

Choosing a table for the view

VenueAreaWhat to orderTypical spend per person
Cosimo Rooftop Restaurant & BarPiazza OgnissantiPici with mussels; dinner€70–110 for dinner
Caffè dell’OroNorth bank, Ponte VecchioHouse beef burger; meal€35–55 for a meal
La Terrazza at Hotel ContinentaleNorth bank, Ponte VecchioCocktail; drink€18–30 for a cocktail
Borgo San JacopoSouth bank, Ponte VecchioContemporary Tuscan tasting menu€120–200 for dinner
La Leggenda dei FratiVilla BardiniChicken-liver terrine; dinner€110–180 for dinner

For a drink rather than dinner, pick La Terrazza; Cosimo also suits a sunset drink, but its restaurant gives you the option of staying for a meal. For a broad rooftop panorama choose Cosimo; La Leggenda dei Frati offers the city skyline from its terrace above Villa Bardini. Caffè dell’Oro brings the bridge close at river level, while Borgo San Jacopo offers a more formal dinner with the possibility of a bridge-facing terrace table.

These are rounded typical ranges, not fixed menus: tasting courses and wine push a dinner towards the upper end, while a single drink keeps the bar spend lower. Ask for a view-facing seat when reserving, especially if the outlook is why you are going, although a seating preference does not guarantee that table. If you would rather sit over a glass without paying for a panorama, Florence wine bars for a seated glass offer another kind of evening.

Cosimo Rooftop Restaurant & Bar

Cosimo Rooftop Restaurant & Bar occupies the sixth floor of The Excelsior at Piazza Ognissanti. Its outdoor terrace gives you a wide city panorama rather than a single bridge view: the cathedral, Santa Maria Novella, Ponte Vecchio and Ponte Vespucci are among the landmarks visible from up here. This is the choice when the sweep of Florence matters as much as the dinner.

For dinner, seek out pici, thick Tuscan pasta, with fried aubergines, datterino tomatoes, mussels and salted ricotta. Dinner is served daily from 18:30 to 22:30, so you can opt for a sunset drink or stay for a meal. If you want the outdoor outlook while eating, say so when requesting a table, because a reservation does not secure a specific position.

The building looks onto Piazza Ognissanti, a useful landmark for finding the hotel entrance from the riverside. The square itself is not the view from the dining terrace: choose this address for the high vantage point, not for a table beside the Arno.

Caffè dell’Oro

Caffè dell’Oro sits on the north bank immediately beside Ponte Vecchio. Come for a close-up riverside meal, not a skyline panorama: the bridge is the point of this address, and the view will feel quite different from a rooftop. Its bistro setting makes it a less ceremonious choice than a tasting-menu dinner, though it is still worth deciding whether the outlook matters enough to shape your seating request.

The house beef burger is the distinctive order here: hand-cut beef with Tuscan bacon, smoked provola, onion and aji panca aioli, a chilli mayonnaise. It is a substantial single dish rather than a multi-course commitment. Request a river-facing seat if looking towards the Arno is important to your meal, but do not assume every table sees the water or that the restaurant can promise a particular one. You can still enjoy the food if the view-facing seats are taken; if your reason for coming is specifically the bridge, make that preference clear before the meal.

The north-bank address by Ponte Vecchio is a useful meeting point, but ask about a river-facing seat rather than judging the outlook from the street.

La Terrazza at Hotel Continentale

La Terrazza at Hotel Continentale is a rooftop bar near Ponte Vecchio, rather than a restaurant for a full dinner. Choose it for a cocktail with an elevated bridge-side outlook: the rooftop takes in Ponte Vecchio, the Arno and the historic centre. It differs from Caffè dell’Oro below by lifting the view above the riverside, while Cosimo gives you a broader panorama from farther along the river.

Order a cocktail and give yourself time to enjoy the terrace rather than planning your evening around a meal here. A hotel rooftop does not mean that every seat faces the same landmarks: ask for a view-facing position if that is the point of the visit. A drink here can come before dinner somewhere else near the bridge, but it is not a substitute for booking a table at Borgo San Jacopo if you want a long sit-down meal with food at the centre of the evening.

Borgo San Jacopo

Borgo San Jacopo is a formal dinner address on the south bank near Ponte Vecchio. The draw is a possible terrace table facing the bridge, with the river between you and the north bank, rather than the mere fact that the restaurant stands beside the Arno. This is a choice for a long dinner when the view should accompany the food, not just a quick stop to admire the water.

Look for a contemporary Tuscan tasting menu if you want to settle in over several courses. Request the terrace with a Ponte Vecchio view when reserving, and ask the restaurant to note your preference. Terrace places are limited, and even a noted request may not result in a view-facing table. If that sightline is essential to your evening, decide in advance whether an indoor or non-view table would still suit you.

Ponte Vecchio is the landmark to name in the seating request: a bridge-facing terrace table is more specific than a riverside table. The bridge is also easy to recognise when approaching from either bank, though seeing it from your dining seat depends on where you are placed.

La Leggenda dei Frati

La Leggenda dei Frati serves dinner at Villa Bardini, above the river on Florence’s south side. From the restaurant’s terrace dining seats, the city spreads out in a single sweep. Choose it when you want a longer, formal meal with a skyline outlook, rather than the bridge at close range or a cocktail on a central rooftop. If that view is essential, request terrace seating rather than assuming an indoor table will have the same outlook.

The chicken-liver terrine is an especially distinctive order: it comes with Pan Co’ Santi, a Tuscan raisin-and-walnut bread, dried figs and crème caramel. Its sweet accompaniments set this apart from the burger at Caffè dell’Oro or the pasta at Cosimo. Leave room for a full dinner here rather than treating the restaurant as a viewing platform with a small bite, because the terrace is part of a seated meal.

Villa Bardini places this dinner by its hillside garden rather than beside Ponte Vecchio. The terrace seats are the ones associated with the city view, while the garden setting is a reason to choose a different part of Florence for your evening, not a promise about the outlook from every table.
