Savannah Rooftop Bars: River, Skyline or Square

Choose a Savannah rooftop for the view you want to sit with, not for a circuit of bars. Myrtle & Rose pairs a planted garden with the Savannah River, while Top Deck opens onto river, bridge and city views. Peregrin puts greenery above the Historic District, and The Neon Fish looks across Ellis Square. These six choices suit a paid drink at customer seating, with a light bite at some and oysters during a weekend brunch at one.

The Neon FishEllis Square, square-facing rooftopRaw oysters + drink at weekend brunch$35–55

These rounded budgets include sales tax and a customary tip, with a snack portion per person where named. Extra drinks, more oysters or larger food orders raise the bill. Paying for the rooftop makes most sense when you want to linger over the outlook. If you are hungry, cheap meals in Savannah can make a separate meal more satisfying than stretching a rooftop snack into dinner.

Ask for a view-facing seat and arrive while daylight still reveals the river or city. Open-air seating puts weather into the decision, so leave room to change your outdoor plans. For groups or a fixed seated occasion, arrange seating ahead where reservations are available.

Myrtle & Rose

Myrtle & Rose’s olive and lime trees provide natural shade above the Savannah River. The planting makes the seating area a garden as well as a place to look out over the water. Choose it when the greenery matters as much as the outlook, and ask for a river-facing seat if seeing the water is your priority.

Order Garden Smash, one of the rooftop’s botanical cocktails. It fits a drinks-led visit, with the garden and river giving you a reason to settle into your seat rather than treat the stop as a quick purchase.

You do not need to stay at the hotel to visit. Day visitors can come for rooftop cocktails. On Sundays, drinks service runs until 10pm, leaving time for a drink after an early dinner.

The Lost Square

The Lost Square combines Savannah River and Historic Downtown views with covered and open-air seating. At The Alida, the choice is not simply whether to sit outside, but which part of the outlook you want to face. The river terrace looks west, making it a useful seat request if evening light is part of the occasion.

Plan a drinks-only visit here. If you specifically want a shrimp po’ boy, eat it elsewhere rather than arriving expecting that sandwich from the rooftop menu.

Non-hotel guests can take the lobby elevator to the top floor. Seating is first-come, first-served, with no reservation required, so this is a place to keep your seating expectations flexible. Arriving ahead of your preferred drinking time gives you room to wait for a suitable spot rather than relying on a reserved river-facing table.

Top Deck

Top Deck’s wraparound deck takes in the river, Talmadge Memorial Bridge, surrounding marshes and the city along Bay Street. The breadth of the outlook is its reason to visit, especially if you want to see both the waterfront and the city from your seat. Ask for the river-facing side when the water and bridge are what brought you upstairs.

Order the truffle pretzel with dips alongside a drink. It is a lighter bite to share over the view rather than the basis for a substantial dinner. Let the snack accompany the drink, with a separate meal before or afterwards if that is what your appetite needs.

You can reach the rooftop without being a Cotton Sail Hotel guest. Enter through the hotel lobby on Bay Street, or use the River Street elevator by the Top Deck sign. Those two approaches let you arrive from either the upper street or the waterfront. Top Deck opens daily.

Bar Julian

Bar Julian is a rooftop destination at Eastern Wharf, on the eastern riverfront. The outlook brings together the Savannah River, Talmadge Memorial Bridge and Historic District, making the city part of the view as well as the water. Choose it for a drink centred on that eastern-riverfront setting, rather than treating it as an incidental stop among the bars farther west.

Whipped feta with crudités is the snack to order with your cocktail. It costs $9, and oven bread is an optional $6 addition. The vegetables give you something to dip, while adding bread makes sense if you want a more substantial accompaniment. Neither choice needs to turn the visit into a full meal.

Visitors who are not staying at Thompson Savannah are welcome. The venue opens daily, 7am–11pm. Make the rooftop your destination for an evening drink, with a seat overlooking the river.

Peregrin

Peregrin’s conservatory-style botanicals and curated greenery frame an open-air Historic District rooftop. At Perry Lane Hotel, the planted setting suits a single drink above the city rather than a riverfront occasion. Give yourself time to enjoy the seating area as well as look beyond it, since the greenery is part of the reason to choose this bar.

Plan to choose a drink from the rooftop menu rather than come specifically for Chatham Artillery Punch, Savannah’s traditional strong mixed punch. It is not on Peregrin’s drinks menu, so this is not the place to build an outing around that local speciality.

Non-hotel visitors can come to Peregrin. Reservations are encouraged, and groups of more than six should contact the venue directly. That makes arranging your seats worthwhile when a particular gathering matters more than the freedom to drop in.

The Neon Fish at Sorry Charlie’s

The Neon Fish at Sorry Charlie’s offers Ellis Square, City Market and Congress Street views from rooftop customer seating. Choose it when you want to look across the square and the surrounding city rather than out over the river. The square-facing setting gives a later drinks visit its own reason to come, even if brunch is not part of your day.

For oysters, make it a weekend brunch occasion. Fresh raw oysters are on the rooftop brunch menu, served Saturdays and Sundays, 10am–2pm. Order them with a drink and allow time to sit over the square. This suits a daytime seafood stop, with the square and City Market forming the backdrop to your meal.

The rooftop is open to the public and serves food and drinks Monday–Thursday, 3pm–midnight, Friday, noon–midnight, and Saturday–Sunday, 10am–midnight. Head to Sorry Charlie’s on Congress Street and ask for The Neon Fish, so you reach the rooftop rather than settle into the oyster bar below.
