Strasbourg Airport to City Centre: Train or Taxi

Strasbourg Airport’s rail connection takes you directly to Strasbourg railway station, but the station is not the end of your journey to the centre. Place Kléber is the shared destination for the three options below: a regional train followed by a walk, a train followed by a tram and a shorter walk, or a taxi to the railway station followed by walking.

Your choice depends on how comfortably you can carry your bags, whether you want another vehicle change and how many people will share a taxi. Allow for leaving the terminal, buying tickets and waiting for departure as well as the journey itself.

*The TER fare is for one-way second-class travel on selected trains and dates, subject to availability. The price varies with your departure. The taxi estimate is for the airport-to-station ride. Traffic and the tariff period affect the meter.

Choose TER and walking if your bags are manageable. Adding a tram reduces the final walk, but brings another boarding point and departure wait. A group can share the taxi fare, although this option still leaves the station-to-square walk.

For either train option, leave time for the terminal approach, ticket purchase and finding your platform before waiting for departure.

The airport station and TER tickets

Entzheim-Aéroport station is reached from the terminal by a covered pedestrian footbridge. Follow the railway-station signs across the road and tracks to the boarding point. SNCF TER Grand Est operates the direct regional trains to Strasbourg railway station, with no change en route.

Buy your TER ticket at the station’s TER ticket machine or on your mobile. There is no staffed ticket office, so have your ticket ready before going to the platform. With luggage, leave room to use the machine without having to hurry when a train arrives.

Keep a valid ticket ready for inspection. For paper tickets, retain the ticket throughout the journey. For digital tickets, present a printed PDF or the QR code in the SNCF app. Open the ticket on your phone before boarding so that you can find it easily when asked.

The walk or tram to Place Kléber

From Strasbourg railway station, walking to Place Kléber avoids another ticket and vehicle change. Head towards the old town along Rue du Maire Kuss, cross the river and continue towards the square. This option suits you if carrying your luggage through the streets feels easier than taking it onto another vehicle.

To reduce that walk, follow the tram signs from the railway platforms or concourse down to Gare Centrale. You can reach the underground stop without going outside, because its platforms sit beneath the forecourt’s glass canopy. The tram option still involves reaching the boarding platform and waiting with your bags.

Take CTS line A towards Graffenstaden or line D towards Kehl Rathaus, and leave at Homme de Fer. From there, walk to nearby Place Kléber. CTS’s general tram pattern is approximately every 5–10 minutes from 06:30 to 20:00, and approximately every 15 minutes outside those hours.

Place Kléber is a central square, not the address of every hotel. Once you reach it, your accommodation may still require another walk, so consider that final stretch when deciding whether to carry your bags from the railway station.

The taxi rank and fares

If you choose a taxi instead, start at Strasbourg Airport’s official rank immediately outside the terminal, in front of arrivals. Ask for Strasbourg railway station, then continue on foot to Place Kléber as described above. Naming the station makes the drop-off clear rather than requesting the city centre in general.

The airport-to-station fare is metered, not a fixed airport transfer charge. Traffic can increase the cost, and the night tariff applies from 19:00 to 07:00, as well as on Sundays and public holidays. Sharing the vehicle spreads the cost between passengers, while travelling alone leaves you paying the whole fare.

A taxi saves you the airport-station approach and train boarding, but a taxi to the station does not remove the final walk. If that walk is the difficult part of your transfer, the train-and-tram option brings you closer to Place Kléber instead.
