Vegetarian Restaurants in Strasbourg: Where to Eat

A vegetarian meal in Strasbourg can be a tofu burger near the cathedral, an Asian-inspired bowl or a seitan kebab on Rue des Bateliers. Choose Bistrot & Chocolat for a seated vegetarian meal, or Végéman when you want substantial plant-based street food without a split lunch-and-dinner service.

Harmonie Bowl & Juice adds a bowl-led restaurant on Place Saint-Étienne. Café Potager suits a group with different diets, while La Bouture offers a cooperative, self-service lunch by the waterfront. These five places give you a savoury meal, rather than just a pastry or a drink.

The estimates cover a main dish or substantial savoury order with a simple drink. Expect the lower end for a smaller order, while dessert, extra dishes and alcoholic drinks push spending upwards.

Vegetarian food excludes meat and fish. Vegan dishes also exclude eggs and dairy. Specialist kitchens make a meat-free meal straightforward, while mixed-menu Café Potager suits diners who eat differently.

Arrange a table ahead for a fixed sit-down meal or a group. Counter-service lunch allows a more casual arrival. Choose a seated restaurant when the meal is part of your outing, a café for lunch between visits, or street food when you want to eat and carry on.

Bistrot & Chocolat

Bistrot & Chocolat combines vegetarian and vegan savoury cooking with a chocolate-focused tearoom near Strasbourg Cathedral. Its location on Rue de la Râpe makes it a useful place to sit down for a meal during a visit to the cathedral quarter, rather than treating the tearoom as a dessert stop alone.

Order the vegan burger for its tofu-and-vegetable patty, accompanied by apples and carrots sautéed with rosemary and beetroot ketchup. Those accompaniments give the dish a different character from a conventional burger-and-chips order. If you want to finish with something sweet, chocolate fondant is a dessert to look for, not a substitute for the savoury meal.

Continuous savoury service makes a later lunch possible without having to wait for a separate evening sitting. Treat this as a daytime or early-meal choice rather than a late dinner destination. The vegetarian menu also leaves room for companions who prefer a different main, such as green-vegetable risotto.

Harmonie Bowl & Juice

Harmonie Bowl & Juice makes Asian-inspired bowls the main event on Place Saint-Étienne, in the historic centre. Choose the Tokyo Bowl for a complete bowl-led meal, rather than coming only for juice. It suits a restaurant lunch or dinner when you want your savoury order assembled as a single main dish.

The square location makes the restaurant easy to work into time spent around the eastern side of the cathedral quarter. It suits a meal before or after exploring the surrounding streets, keeping lunch or dinner within the historic centre.

Lunch and evening service are separate, so plan to sit down during one of those sittings rather than arriving between them for a late afternoon meal. The evening sitting makes Harmonie a dinner option as well as a lunch restaurant.

Café Potager

Café Potager is a mixed-menu café on Rue des Francs-Bourgeois, useful for a central lunch with companions who do not all eat vegetarian food. Its cooking is prepared daily with fresh, seasonal ingredients, so the appeal is a savoury café meal rather than a dedicated vegetarian restaurant menu.

Look for the vegetable crumble as the centre of your lunch. Build the rest of your order around your appetite, adding another savoury item if a lighter portion would leave you hungry. A coffee and something sweet can follow, but start with the savoury dish if you need a full meal.

Rue des Francs-Bourgeois places the café among the central shopping streets, convenient when your day combines shops and sightseeing.

Végéman

Végéman serves fully vegan street food on Rue des Bateliers, with a seitan kebab sandwich as its speciality. Choose the kebab when you want a substantial quick meal, rather than a seated restaurant occasion. Seitan is a wheat-based meat substitute with a firm, chewy texture. It contains gluten, so it is not suitable if you need to avoid wheat.

Burgers and tacos are among the other plant-based street-food options if you fancy something other than the signature sandwich. Decide whether the sandwich alone will satisfy you before adding extras.

Continuous food service is useful when sightseeing has pushed lunch into the afternoon, or when you want an early dinner. For takeaway, click-and-collect lets you place an order online and collect it at the restaurant. Head to its Rue des Bateliers entrance for collection rather than planning around table service.

La Bouture

La Bouture is a fully vegan restaurant and café operated by PUR COOP on Presqu’île André Malraux. Its seasonal, self-service lunch offers a different sort of meal from table service: choose from the day’s savoury dishes, with vegan lasagne one dish to look for.

Lasagne gives you a layered, substantial main rather than a snack to accompany coffee. The changing lunch selection also includes dishes such as curries and couscous, so choose according to what appeals on the day rather than relying on one fixed order.

Choose La Bouture when your plans already bring you to the waterfront beyond the historic centre. The peninsula setting puts it away from the cathedral quarter and makes lunch a useful pause during time spent around André Malraux. Plan your visit around lunch to choose from the day’s self-service savoury dishes.
