Sedona Restaurants with a View: Five Places to Eat

A scenic meal in Sedona can mean a broad red-rock panorama at Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill or a closer look at Oak Creek from Creekside American Bistro. Choose the outlook and the meal together: a daytime brunch, a pizza on a patio and a full sit-down dinner make different demands on your budget and your day.

Mariposa is the strongest choice for a broad red-rock panorama. Mesa Grill suits a daytime meal with runway interest, while Creekside offers a closer creek-and-rock outlook. All five serve daily, so choose by meal and setting rather than a weekly closing day.

The ranges exclude sales tax and tips. A smaller order lowers the bill, while extra courses and alcohol can push it above the range. A scenic meal earns its extra spend when you can enjoy the landscape from your table. For an evening focused on cooking rather than daylight scenery, consider food-led dinners in Sedona.

Reserve if your meal needs to happen at a fixed time, and request view-facing seats as a preference, not a guarantee. Leave daylight for the scenery rather than arriving as it disappears. On exposed terraces, wind, heat or rain may make an indoor table more comfortable.

Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill

Mariposa Latin Inspired Grill gives you an expansive view of Sedona’s red-rock formations and surrounding landscape. The dining room’s floor-to-ceiling windows keep the scenery part of an indoor meal, while the outdoor patio opens the outlook beyond the room. This is a place to sit down for the landscape as well as the cooking, rather than treating the view as a brief stop before dinner.

Chef and restaurateur Lisa Dahl shapes the Latin-inspired menu. Look for empanadas, filled pastries whose enclosed filling makes them a useful starter to share before a main course. Their usual form is a folded pastry parcel, although fillings and cooking methods vary across Latin America. Choose them for an introduction to the menu rather than expecting the starter alone to make a full dinner.

The bluff-top position along State Route 89A makes the meal a destination in its own right.

Lunch and dinner are separate services, with a break between them. Make this a deliberate meal stop rather than assuming you can arrive for a late lunch that runs straight into dinner. The setting and more expensive dining style suit an occasion when you want time at the table.

Mesa Grill

Mesa Grill pairs Sedona’s red-rock buttes with the runway at Sedona Airport. The patio and window-side seats offer the red-rock outlook, and public dining areas also overlook the runway. Aircraft activity adds something distinct to the meal, especially if you enjoy watching the airport as well as looking out towards the rocks.

Owner and executive chef Mercer Mohr leads the Southwestern and American cooking. For a daytime order, choose chilaquiles, tortilla chips softened in sauce. Here, the corn tortillas are sautéed with Hatch green chilli sauce and served with eggs over easy, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and feta. Soft chips are part of the dish, not a sign that it should have arrived crisp. The eggs and accompaniments make this a substantial breakfast or brunch.

Reach the restaurant along Airport Road on Airport Mesa. You are heading to a dining destination at the airport, so the runway-facing setting is part of the reason to go rather than merely somewhere to eat before a flight.

The Hudson

The Hudson’s hillside position gives a meal an outlook towards Sedona’s red rocks. Choose the patio or deck for the landscape, the outdoor dining area that makes this New American restaurant a scenic lunch or daylight dinner choice. Its location at Hillside Shopping Plaza along State Route 179 puts the meal in a shopping-plaza setting, but the elevated outdoor seating is the draw.

Order bruschetta, topped toast, and choose flavours to suit your appetite. The fresh mozzarella version combines tomato and basil with cracked black pepper, balsamic syrup and extra-virgin olive oil. Smoked salmon comes with pesto cream cheese, capers and red onions. These give you contrasting toppings rather than several pieces of the same toast.

Bruschetta is ordered per piece, so you can build a small starter or a more varied shared order. If you want to explore beyond those two toppings, the mushroom version combines roasted garlic and ricotta with herbs. Think of the toast as one part of lunch if you also want a main, rather than ordering a large assortment before deciding how much food you need.

Lunch and dinner share a continuous opening window, which makes an afternoon meal possible without a gap between services.

Hideaway House

Hideaway House suits a relaxed pizza meal with Sedona’s red rocks in sight, including Snoopy Rock. All three open-air patios offer the red-rock view, so outdoor dining is central to its appeal. The casual Italian-inspired cooking makes this a choice for sharing food over the scenery rather than organising a more formal, multi-course occasion.

Look for the roasted peach and caramelised pancetta pizza. It is a white pizza, made without the usual tomato-sauce base, with seasoned ricotta, roasted peaches, black pepper, caramelised pancetta and mozzarella. The peaches and pancetta give it a sweet-savoury character, with creamy cheeses tying the toppings together. This is a distinctive order if you want something other than a familiar tomato-and-mozzarella pizza.

A shared pizza lets you keep the meal fairly simple, but order according to appetite rather than assuming one pie will suit every group. The unusual fruit-and-pork combination is also worth agreeing on before you order for the table.

The restaurant is near the Oak Creek crossing on State Route 179. Its seasonal opening hours extend later at the weekend, making both lunch and an earlier evening meal possible.

Creekside American Bistro

Creekside American Bistro offers a closer scene: Oak Creek itself and a red-rock outlook that includes Cathedral Rock. The covered dining decks combine creek and rock views, while patio and window-side dining areas offer the red-rock scenery. Choose it when you want the landscape to include water as well as the larger formations.

For a substantial daytime meal, order shrimp and grits, shrimp served over a porridge of ground maize. The bistro’s version combines Gulf white shrimp with cheesy grits, crispy pork belly and creamed leeks. Green onions and spicy red chilli hot sauce add contrast to the rich base. This is a comfort-food main rather than a light snack, particularly with the pork belly alongside the shrimp.

Creekside has welcomed guests since 2008. Its position near the State Route 179 crossing puts the creek into the dining outlook, not just the restaurant’s name.

The service changes from breakfast to brunch and lunch, then dinner. Aim for the daytime menu if shrimp and grits is what brings you here, and choose the meal window before arranging the rest of your day.
